About Donna Frett Gregory

I am Donna Frett-Gregory, a native Virgin Islander and I've dedicated my life's work to improving the lives of the people of the Virgin Islands. I am the daughter of Jacob Frett Sr. and Iris Hobson and the proud mother to 4 children. I grew up in Hospital Ground, Donoe, and Anna's Retreat communities and I am a product of the public-education system. My schooling at Charlotte Amalie High School and Morgan State University prepared me for a career in public service. I built on this strong foundation, later obtaining a Master of Public Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands and Master of Business Administration from Western Govenors University. My strong financial and business acumen propelled me into several influential roles in government where I have been known for leading with fairness, knowledge, passion, and compassion; traits that will serve me well as a member of the 33rd Legislature.

I have listened with dismay and anxiety as members of our community describe the mounting challenges they face as they try to maintain a decent quality of life- challenges that I have also experienced firsthand. I am offering my skills and knowledge to find solutions to these pressing problems.

"Articulate, Analytical, and Results Driven"

My background demonstrates my ability to administrate large staffs and manage substantial budgets through the implementation of cost saving measures and fiscal accountability. Most recently I served as Chief Financial Officer of the Virgin Islands Port Authority. I also served as Commissioner of the Virgin Islands Department of Education, and previously held positions of Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner for Fiscal and Administrative Services.

In addition, I've worked at the VI Department of Justice as the Director of Operations overseeing the administrative operations, including the Bureau of Corrections. My early career started as an Accounting Clerk in the Business Division of the Legislature of the Virgin Islands, where I was later promoted to Budget Analyst in the Post Audit division, and later worked as the District Director of Business and Administrative Services at the Department of Education.

I am a staunch advocate for issues close to my heart. I served on the board of Kidscope, working to protect child victims of abuse and neglect. I also served on the VI Board of Education where I advocated for reform and fiscal accountability in public education. I regularly volunteer within the community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Sigma Theta Omega Chapter for 28 years, where I currently serves as chapter president.
